      AussieHomeschool Closing Down   11/14/2019

All good things must come to an end and AussieHomeschool is no different. It is with much sadness yet even more necessity that this must be so.   As of Sunday evening, 17/11/2019 the Discussion Forums will close. The Classifieds, for now although not indeterminate, will continue as is.       Why is this happening now? In all honesty, it probably should have happened many years ago but I created this forum, which originally a homeschool classifieds forum for Aussies, about 20 years or so ago. I, along with others for whom I am gratefully indebted to, have spent many, many hours sweating, laughing, praying, crying, writing, apologising, pleading and speaking about this wonderful place. In this day and age of Social Media, along with our ages and therefore differernt stages of life, it is simply not viable in any way for it to continue. You may think differently and that's okay - you honestly have to have lived through some of the dramas and learning opportunities that we all have to truly appreciate why we have the standards that we do - they were borne out of necessity and not undertaken lightly. Much blood, sweat and tears have been spilt over this place. Even more friendships, learning, debate, love, prayer and great times have been had becuase of AussieHomeschool. No one could ever be more thankful for it than I.

I understand you may feel frustration or even anger and for that I apologise, I feel you. But now it is YOUR time to go out and spread the word of home education and its benefits. Share YOUR story, tell those you know and don't know about homeschooling and what is has done for your family.   On behalf of John (my long suffering and patient husband), myself and the ENTIRE moderating team over the many years - I THANK YOU and WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS.   God Bless, Susan (HomeGrownKids /  AussieHomeschool)

The colourful illustrations in this book are made by the author from dyed wool fibres, felted together to create a solid piece of "fabric." She employed a technique known as "dry," or "needle," felting, which requires a small hand tool called a felting needle with barbs along the shaft to catch the fibres as it pierces the surface of the wool and binds them together. How Much? Visiting Markets Around the World by Red Lewin  hb wdj *NEW* $18…. How much for... fried bananas in Bangkok, a mandolin in New Jersey, llama-wool ponchos in Peru, or a camel in Cairo? With Caldecott Honour artist Ted Lewin's richly coloured and detailed landscapes, how much? takes readers deep into the heart of bustling marketplaces all around the world. So come along with us -- you never know what treasures you'll find!

All around the world, people buy and sell goods in markets. Ted Lewin introduces readers to six unique markets in such diverse places as Madras (India) and Lambertville (New Jersey). In Thailand, selling and buying takes place aboard long thin boats, where people buy fruits with such lyrical names as pomelo and rambutan. Some vendors even cook food right on their boats! Other highlights include a market high up in the Peruvian Andes and a camel market outside of Cairo. Lewin's watercolours have soft edges and very bright colours. The detailed pictures convey the bustling excitement of a market full of interesting goods. This beautiful picture may be used to introduce your children to different cultures, spending some time on each country and having a “country cuisine” night each time you visit a new country market!!! Pirates by Joshua B. Feder hb *as new* $15….As long as men have sailed the seas, fearsome pirates have terrorised merchants and captured the imaginations of landlubbers everywhere. "Pirates" scrapes off the heavily encrusted legends of such colourful figures such as Captain Kidd, Blackbeard, and Bartholomew Roberts, brigands whose names strike fear into maritime merchants even today. The book focuses on the known facts of these pirates, as well as their everyday lives, the codes of honour they lived under, and many other facts that will surprise even those who study and play on the high seas.

The commonly held vision of pirates is a fearless swashbuckler with an eyepatch, leaping fearlessly around his ship, defeating foes, & burying captured treasure. This book explores the real world as it has existed for the last 5,000 years, from the ancient civilisations of Sumeria through the Roman Empire, the spread of Islam, & the discovery of the New World. Describes the lives of buccaneers, marauders who terrorised the Spanish colonisers of the New World & ushered in the golden age of piracy. Explains what pirates' lives were really like, describing pirate laws, customs, & battle tactics. It also presents some of the most successful, ruthless, & scandal-ridden pirates of all time, such as William Kidd & Blackbeard. Ages 10++
