      AussieHomeschool Closing Down   11/14/2019

All good things must come to an end and AussieHomeschool is no different. It is with much sadness yet even more necessity that this must be so.   As of Sunday evening, 17/11/2019 the Discussion Forums will close. The Classifieds, for now although not indeterminate, will continue as is.       Why is this happening now? In all honesty, it probably should have happened many years ago but I created this forum, which originally a homeschool classifieds forum for Aussies, about 20 years or so ago. I, along with others for whom I am gratefully indebted to, have spent many, many hours sweating, laughing, praying, crying, writing, apologising, pleading and speaking about this wonderful place. In this day and age of Social Media, along with our ages and therefore differernt stages of life, it is simply not viable in any way for it to continue. You may think differently and that's okay - you honestly have to have lived through some of the dramas and learning opportunities that we all have to truly appreciate why we have the standards that we do - they were borne out of necessity and not undertaken lightly. Much blood, sweat and tears have been spilt over this place. Even more friendships, learning, debate, love, prayer and great times have been had becuase of AussieHomeschool. No one could ever be more thankful for it than I.

I understand you may feel frustration or even anger and for that I apologise, I feel you. But now it is YOUR time to go out and spread the word of home education and its benefits. Share YOUR story, tell those you know and don't know about homeschooling and what is has done for your family.   On behalf of John (my long suffering and patient husband), myself and the ENTIRE moderating team over the many years - I THANK YOU and WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS.   God Bless, Susan (HomeGrownKids /  AussieHomeschool)

Dr Seuss's Books all books are excellent condition; pb $2 each or take the lot for $5….

Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!....Some people just won't take the hint when it's time to go to bed, but Marvin K. Mooney eventually gets the message!

By combing the funniest stories, craziest creatures and zaniest pictures with his unique blend of rhyme, rhythm and repetition, Dr. Seuss helps children of all ages and abilities learn to read. Recommended for early readers in kindergarten and first grade as it is an easy, fun read that students enjoy!

There's a Wocket in my Pocket! ......There's a Wocket in my Pocket is yet another prime catch in the vast sea of delectable Dr. Seuss books. It's difficult to find a Dr. Seuss book one wouldn't recommend highly, and this is no exception. Seuss's simple rhymes are consistently as amusing as they are useful; his books are bastions of creative nonsense that simultaneously encourage the joy of wordplay.

The Foot Book.....The Foot Book is a delightful tribute to the diverse and multifaceted world of feet. Not merely a realm of ankles, arches, and toes--as this self-proclaimed "Wacky Book of Opposites" attests--the podiatry province welcomes all kinds: "Slow feet/Quick feet/Well feet/Sick feet." Dr. Seuss has put his best foot forward here, in a whimsical approach to showcasing opposites. Wet feet contrast dry feet, and low feet contrast high feet.

The rhymes are quick and quirky, and Seuss's illustrations will knock kids' socks off.

Green Eggs and Ham!...Beginning readers love this book for it's simple words fun story, and silly (but sneakily educational) simplistic didactic rhythm of the poem, which helps young readers to learn and remember (ask yourself why you still remember the words to this book after so many years!). Additionally, it enforces the lesson to TRY something, even if it looks weird, you may like them! Great addition to any library and for all ages to enjoy.

The Hick-Boo A Tale of a Tailless Transparent Goblin by M.H. Stephen Smith hb wdj (a little torn) gc $3....

The hick-boo is a mischievous, intriquing, appealing character that children will love, while his adventures, coupled with the quaintly delightful illustrations, will make them laugh and want to read the book over and over again....The original story is about an almost extinct species of tailless transparent goblin that children can only see at certain times such as in the moonlight or covered in dust, found only in the desolate region lying between no-man’s land and the greatest desert ever was. It follows the mischievous antics of the hickboo after he is caught by two young boys who bring him back to their house where he disrupts a usually smoothly ran household, by putting in his own ingredients into recipes and by dropping spiders into the mouths of open mouthed daytime sleepers.

And the little children whose adventures climbing that mountain, to set things right for the village in the valley, seem fairly normal children, until one realizes that they converse freely with Berni the Dog, Gambo the Goat, Kraak the Jackdaw, and Lotti the Cow, all of whom join them in their adventures. The story has a certain amount of charm, and children who like imaginative tales will enjoy it. Ages 8-10

The king's ministers set up an academy on the mountain, and every teenage girl must attend and learn how to become a princess. Soon Miri finds herself confronted with a harsh academy mistress, bitter competition among the girls, and her own conflicting desires. Winning the contest could give her everything she ever wanted--but it would mean leaving her home and family behind. This is a great book for all ages. I would definitely recommend it to elementary and middle schoolers as well as teenagers and adults. This would make a great book to read with your child too!

Twilight and Fireside by Elizabeth Clark pub 1946 hb gc $4.....from the preface: Dear Girls and Boys, This is a kind of 'all-the-year-round' book of stories. In fact I wanted to call it 'All the Year Round' but the Publisher said he did not think that was a very good name; and as he is wiser than I am about books because he sees so many, I have found another name for it and we have decided to call it 'Twilight and Fireside'. It is being finished at Midsummer when days are warm and bright and twilight is so long and clear that you can see a shining in the Northern sky all through the night. But by the time it is printed and put into a cover and made into a real book with pictures, autumn will have come.

Kenny and the Dragon by Tony DiTerlizzi  hb wdj *as new* $4.....Kenny is a little rabbit with a very big problem. His two best friends are heading into a battle of legendary proportions—with each other! In one corner there’s Graeme, a well-read and cultured dragon with sophisticated tastes. In the other there’s George, a retired knight and dragon slayer who would be content to spend the rest of his days in his bookshop. Neither really wants to fight, but the village townsfolk are set on removing Graeme from their midst and calling George out of retirement. Can Kenny avert disaster?

Tony DiTerlizzi puts a fun-filled, thoroughly theatrical spin on Kenneth Graeme’s classic tale of subterfuge and showmanship with this lighthearted romp of a retelling. With clever dialogue and lovely illustrations, this is a cute little fairy tale that both kids and adults will enjoy, with lessons about being yourself, not giving into fear or rumours, using brains over brawn, and friendship conquering over adversity.

The Amazing Tales of Max & Liz The Ark , the Reed, & the Fire Cloud by Jenny L. Cote pb gc $4....Max, a Scottish terrier, takes his usual morning trot down to the loch where he hears a mysterious Voice humming in the reeds saying, "Come to Me....follow the fire cloud." He embarks on an unknown journey from Scotland, meeting other animals along the way including Liz, a brilliant, petite black cat from France. Max and Liz become the brave leaders for their group, and eventually, for the entire ark. The mysterious journey, filled with danger, humour, trials, and triumphs, leads them across Europe to the Middle East. The moment of arrival for these animals is spectacular as the ark is miraculously transformed into the animals' natural habitats.

Throughout the prior one hundred years, Noah and family have to endure ridicule from villagers while building the ark. Now this family must painfully witness the loss of lives and total destruction of the earth through the mighty flood.

After the journey to the ark, the voyage in the ark begins. Liz finds ways to keep the animals occupied, including daily exercise led by the flamingos and talent night where the animals entertain each other with their natural abilities. BUT a sinister plot develops. Someone is out to kill Noah and his family. Liz follows clues that lead her to discover a stowaway who has deceived them all. Max and Liz foil the plot, but at a high price. The end climaxes with unexpected twists and turns, taking the reader from despair to hope.

I can see any reader aged 7 to age 16 enjoying it and also it'd be a great read aloud option for families!  but like The Chronicles of Narnia and Dragons in Our Midst, readership is for all ages.

Mopsa the Fairy by Jean Ingelow hb gc $4.......Mopsa The Fairy is a WONDERFUL, magical, childhood-mysteries book, in the old-fashioned English genre of the more serious, almost-reality-flavoured, "it could happen in the blink of an eye" fantasy... not in the cutesy, bland, predictable, "pastel-bunny and stupid voices" habits of modern childrens' story pap and supposed "fairy tale" representations, but in the broader, darker, more possibility-expansive and dreamlike wonderings of what could happen in this world of INFINITE ideas and realities. It's old-fashioned, of course, and that brings such yummy nostalgia as more graciousness....This is a great fairy story in the great tradition of George MacDonald...Ages 8-12

Continuing the story of The Hobbit, this The Lord of the Rings is presented in seven volumes, one for each of its six parts plus a seventh volume of appendices.
Originally intended by J.R.R. Tolkien for publication as a single volume, The Lord of the Rings grew in the telling such that its publishers had to split it into three volumes for the sake of both convenience and economy.
But Tolkien wrote his epic fantasy as a work of six books, plus a series of appendices, and now the work is published as the author intended.
The set is in fine and unread condition.  Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power; the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring " the ring that rules them all " which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as the Ring is entrusted to his care. He must leave his home and make a perilous journey across the realms of Middle-earth to the Crack of Doom, deep inside the territories of the Dark Lord. There he must destroy the Ring forever and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Discover the incredible epic journey of Frodo in a celebratory seven-volume boxed set of fantasy classic, The Lord of the Rings. Original price on box is $59.95 --$30...….
