      AussieHomeschool Closing Down   11/14/2019

All good things must come to an end and AussieHomeschool is no different. It is with much sadness yet even more necessity that this must be so.   As of Sunday evening, 17/11/2019 the Discussion Forums will close. The Classifieds, for now although not indeterminate, will continue as is.       Why is this happening now? In all honesty, it probably should have happened many years ago but I created this forum, which originally a homeschool classifieds forum for Aussies, about 20 years or so ago. I, along with others for whom I am gratefully indebted to, have spent many, many hours sweating, laughing, praying, crying, writing, apologising, pleading and speaking about this wonderful place. In this day and age of Social Media, along with our ages and therefore differernt stages of life, it is simply not viable in any way for it to continue. You may think differently and that's okay - you honestly have to have lived through some of the dramas and learning opportunities that we all have to truly appreciate why we have the standards that we do - they were borne out of necessity and not undertaken lightly. Much blood, sweat and tears have been spilt over this place. Even more friendships, learning, debate, love, prayer and great times have been had becuase of AussieHomeschool. No one could ever be more thankful for it than I.

I understand you may feel frustration or even anger and for that I apologise, I feel you. But now it is YOUR time to go out and spread the word of home education and its benefits. Share YOUR story, tell those you know and don't know about homeschooling and what is has done for your family.   On behalf of John (my long suffering and patient husband), myself and the ENTIRE moderating team over the many years - I THANK YOU and WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS.   God Bless, Susan (HomeGrownKids /  AussieHomeschool)

Maths, Arts, some free

Hello, here's some more curricular items for primary- early high. Pics below. Postage extra. Thanks for looking!

Maths

Life of Fred: $8 each

   Cats (hb vgc)

   Decimals & Percents (hb vgc)

Fractions (hb  gc: name inscribed, corners bumped)

Activity Maths: using manipulatives in the classroom Grades 4-6 (1993, pb A4, gc) $4   Despite being for grades 4-6, this was really helpful in K-4 for some hands-on concrete maths activities using cuisinare rods (or lego), dice, counters etc. The appendix has heaps of reproducibles to make your own fraction charts, place value mats, pattern blocks, number lines etc.

LOTE

Sonrisa Spanish Student Book Level 1 with 2 CDs of Spanish folk-songs & nursery rhymes. Spiral bound A4, fc (some added vocab in pencil throughout) $5

Sonrisas uses childrens books & songs to immerse the learner in common phrases and patterns of speech. Sorry I can’t part with the childrens books, which we bought through Abe etc – Spanish versions of Eric Carle classics, Clifford big red dog, I went walking etc. The songs are great for speed/fluency and learning idioms. (many are versions of ones you hear on playschool etc). Ideally, you’d want the teacher manual also, which we don’t have (we went to a class) – which has the song lyrics in it. Or if you have a background in Spanish you could just use the student book set, which lists the vocab, songs & books for each lesson, and has some worksheets.

PDHPE

FREE  - Abeka Health, Safety & Manners Student book 3 (1984, very worn (torn cover) and penciled answers. We used it as a read-aloud in stage 1 as a conversation-starter to cover nutrition, hygiene, first aid, manners etc.

Visual Arts & Art/History crossover

Artistic Pursuits Early Elementary K-3 book 1 (2013, 3rd ed, ec/like new, spiral bound A4) $10

“A comprehensive Art program designed to involve the student in the creative process While developing observational skills”. What can I say? This program is great!

Ancient Egyptians and their neighbours: An activity guide (Broida, 1999, ec/like new $10. Broida’s books are fantastic crossovers for ancient history & art, especially for artsy/crafty learners.

Draw 50 set of 4 books; (Kingfisher, pb A4, ec/like new) $3 each, $10 for set.

Step-by-step sketching guides

   Flowers, Trees & other plants

   Endangered Animals

   Animals

   Cats

Homeschooling helps

FREE – Startwrite 6 CD (for windows 98, 2000, XP “and higher”).

This is a worksheet creator with different fonts to choose from (dots, start dots etc) including maths symbols, clocks & money. Free because it’s old (2007) and there's no knowing if it works on newer computers…

How to get your child off the refrigerator and on to learning (Barnier, pb A4, gc (highlighting) $2
