      AussieHomeschool Closing Down   11/14/2019

All good things must come to an end and AussieHomeschool is no different. It is with much sadness yet even more necessity that this must be so.   As of Sunday evening, 17/11/2019 the Discussion Forums will close. The Classifieds, for now although not indeterminate, will continue as is.       Why is this happening now? In all honesty, it probably should have happened many years ago but I created this forum, which originally a homeschool classifieds forum for Aussies, about 20 years or so ago. I, along with others for whom I am gratefully indebted to, have spent many, many hours sweating, laughing, praying, crying, writing, apologising, pleading and speaking about this wonderful place. In this day and age of Social Media, along with our ages and therefore differernt stages of life, it is simply not viable in any way for it to continue. You may think differently and that's okay - you honestly have to have lived through some of the dramas and learning opportunities that we all have to truly appreciate why we have the standards that we do - they were borne out of necessity and not undertaken lightly. Much blood, sweat and tears have been spilt over this place. Even more friendships, learning, debate, love, prayer and great times have been had becuase of AussieHomeschool. No one could ever be more thankful for it than I.

I understand you may feel frustration or even anger and for that I apologise, I feel you. But now it is YOUR time to go out and spread the word of home education and its benefits. Share YOUR story, tell those you know and don't know about homeschooling and what is has done for your family.   On behalf of John (my long suffering and patient husband), myself and the ENTIRE moderating team over the many years - I THANK YOU and WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS.   God Bless, Susan (HomeGrownKids /  AussieHomeschool)

Is it time for a resurgence of AussieHomeschool?

Why hello there!

It's been a L O N G time... but...

Do you think it is worth the time and energy to revive this ole gal, known as AussieHomeschool? It was once, the largest, the first, the BEST (okay I may be slightly biased there but...) forum in its day, but the time had come to close that chapter.

With all that is happening in the world and in our own beloved country, is it worth trying to revive this forum? It won't be the same - it couldn't be, life has evolved. But, could it be a new place for Aussie Homeschoolers to hang out once again?

I am open to hearing yes or no.

What say you?

Well... probably yes, Susan. It’s been a lonely time for me, the last couple of  years for various reasons. I haven’t homeschooled for over a decade now but am still in touch with people who are or did. Society has become quite polarised, which I see as sadly unavoidable, and I suspect there are probably more than a few homeschoolers who have joined the ranks of homeschoolers because of all sorts of pressures related to lockdowns etc. Perhaps some are now facing unemployment of the family *breadwinner*.
So maybe Aussiehomeschool could be a source of support “in these difficult times”.

What do others think?

I think Yes! While there's certainly lots of homeschooling support and info on Facebook, many people aren't on it or don't really like using it. (For me, it gets a bit overwhelming in these times with so much going on and I like to stay off it as much as I can!). I think this would be a good alternative.

And also, I just feel this is a blessed space :)

Thanks ladies, for your thoughts. This has previously a very special place but I have always believe that the big social media sites (FB in particular) killed off forums. But now, with all that is going on in our country, the division, the possibility of what is to come, is just alarming. I am on FB only for my business, but it definitely is NOT the place to really get to know others or have deep, meaningful discussions.

I will continue to prayerfully consider this. <3

Yes, please. :)

I don't have any experience to comment on the time and energy required for a revival, but I've found this forum to be an unreplicated gem, and have to admit wishing more than once over the last couple of years that it was still up and running. I'm not fond of the big social media sites.

Yes, I would love this to be up and running again.  I used to love it here, and I really don't like facebook.

Yes please, I would love that.  I can relate to all of the other responses.  I think us 'old school' home school mums are generally craving a return to the way things used to be. In this case a return to a more solid,  local online community, with a strong base.   I found myself checking in, for that very reason !    I was hoping it was up and running again :)

I'm with you all, really I am. It used to take a team of mama's to keep this place running smoothly but those mama's have all since moved on to working or being Nanna's! Yay for homeschool graduates! I am homeschooling our nearly 9yo bubbling boy, as well as trying to run a small business (Nutrition Coach) and be a Nonnie and homemaker, etc. As you can imagine, a busy 9yo is enough to make any 52yo woman feel tired. LOL

I might be able to delete all previous members who haven't been around in the last 2 years, but keep the posts - then open the forum back up again (with selective screening process as usual). I won't get back here often to add pending members or sort out any difficulties but I'm always available via email if need be. Give me some time to see if I can easily (and affordably) make that happen. ☺

What a wonderful idea! This was always my first go to when I first started homeschooling 7 years ago. I had some wonderful interactions along the way. Always very encouraging and respectful.
